Reading Difficulties & Dyslexia

EYE CARE

HELPING REDUCE VISUAL STRESS

DID YOU KNOW 10% OF THE POPULATION HAVE DIFFICULTLY WITH READING?

Visual stress, which is also know as Meares Irlen Syndrome, refers to a condition where you have trouble with reading. Symptoms can include

  • Letters or words going out of focus.
  • Headaches from reading.
  • Lines of text resembling patterns of strips.
  • Words appearing to be shimmering or flicking.
  • Bending of lines.

Visual stress symptoms can be present with other conditions like dyslexia, dyspraxia and photosensitive migraines.

COLOURED OVERLAYS

ENHANCE YOUR CHILDS LEARNING

A coloured overlay is a transparent sheet of coloured plastic that can be laid over the reading material. Primarily this is used as a screening tool to determine which patients will benefit from tinted lenses.

Visual stress symptoms can be more pronounced when text is read on white backgrounds, so to reduce these symptoms, we place the coloured overlay specific to the individual's needs over the reading material.

These overlays are also well designed for children to use at school; they are robust enough to survive general handling and have a matt finish to reduce reflections and create minimal interference with the text before it.
