EYE HEALTH

Although there is no evidence to suggest that working with VDU screens damages your eyes, prolonged use can cause symptoms of eye problems that were not apparent before.

An eye examination is very important as it can ensure that your vision is as clear and comfortable as possible. If visual problems arise, they can be corrected to prevent any further symptoms from developing. Symptoms associated with VDU use include tiredness, blurriness, headaches and problems with focusing.

Your VDU screen should be approximately 60cms away, and the top edge of the screen should be no higher than your eye level. When working with VDU screens, or anything that can cause visual strain, it is recommended to take a break every 30 minutes.

Employers have the responsibly of looking after their employees sight, aiming to reduce the effect of work on visual comfort. Companies have been instructed to be responsible for the health and safety of their employees since 1992, which includes the visual comfort of all VDU users.
